Gunnison, CO - On Tuesday May 31st Gunnison/Hinsdale Department of Health and Human Services was presented a distinguished performance recognition award by Reggie Bicha, Executive Director for the Colorado Department of Human Services for their outstanding commitment to improving the lives of Gunnison and Hinsdale County residents. The team exceeded set measures on the majority of C-STAT performance measurements in the areas of Economic Security, and Safety and Wellbeing, outperforming like-sized peer counties.
The Economic Security measures indicate the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of financial, medical, and food assistance programs. Additionally, it includes the child support collected to ensure that all children can benefit from the financial support of both parents. Gunnison County is a leader in this measure with 80.1% for Hinsdale and 75.8% for Gunnison of child support collected while other liked-sized counties performed at 64.3%.
The Safety and Wellbeing measures shows the department’s timeliness to respond to concerns of child and adult abuse and neglect. The high scores in these areas indicate the caseworker’s appropriate response to ensure safety, documentation, and ability to put high quality services in place to help at risk community members and children. Gunnison County outperformed other like-sized counties in the ability to response quickly to child abuse and neglect assessments at 95.4% for Gunnison and 100% of Hinsdale.
These state measures apply to all counties in Colorado. With our low numbers and smaller population, the department’s staff have work incredibly hard to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of these services because one missed number or deadline could greatly decrease the whole department’s scores.
This recognition shows the commitment and dedication the Health and Human Services Department has to create positive change and enhance the quality of life for community members in Gunnison and Hinsdale Counties.
